Curiosity

We have two rescue dogs that we got about three years ago AND now that we are well past the puppy stages, I can thankfully say they are good dogs. When we first brought home the chickens, the dogs were highly curious... and I, as the mom, was highly nervous. I was confident that they would not hurt the chickens on purpose, but the picture in my head was of an excited puppy with clumsy feet stomping on the ground, and maybe a chick would meet her demise underfoot. THANKFULLY, with a bit of control and the smell of treats in my hand, the first meeting of the new siblings went well orchestrated. The picture attached is of just that. Up until this point, the babies had been in our "spare" room and the dogs had not yet seen them... just smelled and heard.
This is a lovely reminder of beautiful summer days...watching new chicks, peck, scratch, eat grass and enjoy the warm sunshine. It was fun to watch them explore...Id imagine my joy was similar to a new moms enjoyment in watching her new baby discover new things day to day. NOT that baby chicks are in any way the same as raising human babies...but they are still babies non the less.
